Beinecke Brothers Scholarship


The Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship Program was established in 1971 by the Board of Directors of the Sperry and Hutchinson Company to honor Edwin, Frederick, and Walter Beinecke. The program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study.

Each scholar receives $2,000 upon completion of his of her undergraduate studies and a stipend of $15,000 for each of two years of graduate study. There are no geographic restrictions on thge use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships, and research grants.

The nominee must be a junior and should represent superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement and personal promise. Preference will be given to students who are planning to attend graduate school in the arts, humanities, and the social sciences.

Preference will be given to candidates for whom the awarding of a scholarship would significantly enhance the likelihood of the student attending graduate school. Students must have demonstrated financial need as confirmed by the College Scholarship Service or by the financial aid office.

The deadline for submission of application materials usually falls in mid-February.
