Research Interests

My research interests lie in the field of topological and symbolic dynamical systems.  For an interesting open problem in symbolic dynamical systems written for undergraduates, see the following: Renewal Systems, Sharp Eyed Snakes and Shifts of Finite Type,
(with A. Johnson), American Mathematics Monthly 109, (2002), 258-272.

Recent interests have included the study of higher dimensional symbolic dynamical systems.  To get an idea of how the situation becomes much more complicated in higher dimensions, see the following (also accessible to undergraduates:
