Well, since everyone and their grandmother has their own happy hunky-dory never updated CyberSphere page, I thought it was about time for me to jump on that bandwagon. Granted, all the cool CS pages are a year or three old, but hey, better late then never.
For those that aren't familiar
with CyberSphere, CS is an online multi player real-time game. You
don't need a 3D card to play. In fact, you can probably play with
an old modem and a mediocre ISP. It's not very bandwidth intensive,
unlike most online games. Like EverQuest and unlike Tribes, there
is no single player version of CS. Without an internet connection
you can't really play. Unlike EverQuest, there is no monthly fee.
There is no software to purchase. In fact, the server goes down a
hell of a lot less then the average Ultima Online or EverQuest server.
Only the occasional mad carpet sucking hoover is capable of taking CS down.
Well, that and the rare fighter pilot recycling everyone's body parts to
clean up the place....
On the down side, CS doesn't have the
greatest of sounds. The closest you can come is by getting the latest
copy of zMUD
and installing PiMP. Once you have PiMP
working, take a walk around town. Pass by the pet store on Southern Hitachi
to make sure its installed correctly. If you don't hear anything, you
messed up. CS also is a bit lacking in the graphics department.
Once more, the best you can do is downloading a copy of a client like GMud
or the aforementioned zMUD
and hitting @ANSI ON once you're on CS. Take
a walk to the corner of Midtown and Fuji. From there head north into the
dark alley, and then east. Read the graffiti wall after saying hi to Tonya.
That'll test your client's color scheme all right.
CS crap of note:
Thanks to Doctor Octagon, I now have a copy of the fabled PiMP available for download. Enjoy!
A series of maps of New Carthage.
Pictures from MB2K. Meet the freaks behind the text.
Links ranging from CS links, to player pages, to further resources.
The "help theme" message I wrote up for CS recently.
My hall of shame - player applications, histories, and more.
Random tidbits of CS-related miasma.
Everyone else on CyberSphere does lists, from Graye to Tiny. I thought I should be allowed to do lists as well.
