Quick Feet + Toxic Orb
| Item: |
|
Toxic Orb |
Poochyena Protects the first turn it's out to raise its speed 1.5 times, allowing it to outspeed most of the metagame. Crunch provides a powerful STAB while Return hits hardest against the few things that resist it. Taunt allows Poochyena to prevent fast setup or recovery, while Super Fang lets it knock out a lot of HP from bulky walls it might not be able to hurt otherwise.

Quick Feet + ResTalk

Leftovers / Life Orb |
With this strategy, Poochyena uses Rest both to keep healthy and to activate Quick Feet, giving it two powerful fast attacks it can fire with Sleep Talk. When Poochyena wakes up again, it can go back to sleep to recover. Unfortunately, it is not quite bulky enough to keep this up indefinitely, but when you can get it to work, it does wonders.

Life Orb / Leftovers |
Another way that Poochyena can make up for its lack of speed is with Sucker Punch. Using Taunt, it can force its opponent to attack it, allowing a guaranteed hit by Sucker Punch unless they switch out. The EVs are designed to maximize Poochyena's defensive ability from both sides of the spectrum and also outspeed any zero-investment base 35s.

Choice Band

Choice Band |
With Poochyena's enormous attack stat, a Choice Band set is obvious. Crunch is massively powerful here, and can come close to 2HKOing walls like Metapod. Return hits Tyrogue and other Poochyena the hardest, and is a decent secondary option. Fire Fang was excluded on the other sets because it only barely does more than Crunch, but that little bit can be very helpful against the cocoon walls. Sucker Punch helps remedy your unboosted speed, but it is very dangerous to use when locked into Choice Band. Jolly gives you more speed, but Adamant gets you a small chance of 2HKO on every physical wall in the game.
