John R. Lenz's Personal Page

Max-man (Max Russell L.) was born on May 2, 1998.  He's the best!

I was born in 1957, grew up in Huntington, N.Y. (where my Dad and sister have the used & rare bookstore), and attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. (Class of 1975).   I received my Ph.D. in Classical Studies from Columbia University in 1993 and attended the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (1988-'89) as a fortunate Fulbright fellow (where I met Fulbright himself).  I'm Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Classics at Drew University in Madison, N.J. and former President (1995-1999) of The Bertrand Russell Society, Inc. (Who was Bertrand Russell? I'm glad you asked.) I have been active in humanist and freethought (so called) causes (proud to have my own entry in Who's Who in Hell by Warren Allen Smith).  I am retired from playing hockey and after many years as a long-suffering fan of the tragic New York Rangers, finally was smart enough to switch to the New Jersey Devils for my son's good.

My Address:   Dept. of Classics, Drew University, Madison, NJ 07940.
